I Was Losing My Kids to a World I Didn't Understand

A couple years ago, I went through a rough patch and felt disconnected from my kids. They were growing up in a world of Roblox and AI that I didn't understand—and honestly, I didn't know how to reach them anymore.

Last summer, on a trip together, I tried something different. I used ChatGPT to create an AI-generated comic book with them—a silly parody of Black Mirror, but starring them in Roblox scenarios. We called it "Roblox Mirror."

They loved it. We spent hours laughing, riffing on ideas, making it weirder and funnier. It was the most connected I'd felt with them in years.

"The thing I was anxious about—AI—was actually the bridge back to my kids."

I built AI Family Night so other parents could have that same experience. Fifteen minutes a week. One challenge. Something you create together.

Because the point isn't to teach your kids about AI. It's to stop feeling like a stranger in their world.

Questions?

What ages is this for?
AI Family Night works best for kids ages 7-12. Younger kids can participate with more parent help; older kids might want more independence but often still enjoy the creative challenges.
Do I need to know anything about AI?
Nope! Every challenge includes exact prompts to copy-paste. If you can type, you can do this. Many parents tell us they learned alongside their kids—and that's kind of the point.
What tools do I need?
Just free AI tools like ChatGPT (free version works fine) or Claude. For image challenges, we recommend free tools like Bing Image Creator. We always suggest free options first.
Is this safe for kids?
Yes—because you're doing it together. The challenges are designed for supervised co-creation. You're right there with your kid, which is the safest way for them to learn about AI.
What if my kid isn't into Roblox?
The challenges are customizable! We use Roblox as an example because it's popular, but every challenge works with whatever your kid is into—Minecraft, sports, animals, you name it.
How is this different from coding camps or AI courses?
Those are great, but they're a bigger commitment and often separate you from the learning. AI Family Night is about connection first, learning second. You do it together, and it only takes 15 minutes.
